In smashing the club’s transfer record to bring in Juan Mata from Chelsea, David Moyes has take the first step to addressing the huge amount of work that needs doing to his Manchester United squad.
With Mata having only appeared occasionally this season, it represents sensible business all round: United get a world class footballer, Mata gets regular football, and Chelsea get £15million profit.
Some have argued that he is overpriced at £37million. If he can fire United into the top four it will be money well spent.
