Moyes’ new boys extended their historic success in the Community Shield yesterday afternoon, with their sixteenth outright win* in the yearly event.
It was a walk in the park for United as they barely got out of first gear to overcome relegated Wigan. Robin Van Persie didn’t wait long to get himself on the scoresheet, as he guided the ball past Wigan Keeper Scott Carson with just six minutes on the clock. A cross which lacked pace and trajectory by Evra from the left meant RVP had to guide to his header perfectly into the far corner, and that he did.
Despite a slow preseason for Manchester United, with only two wins out of seven, they looked somewhat impressive and comfortable in possession. The midfield performed well as a unit, with Michael Carrick orchestrating things effortlessly once again, earning him the Man of the Match award.
