Call them glory-hunters; fair-weather fans or whatever else you like, but every football supporter worldwide felt at least a tiny moment of empathy for Manchester United fans last season. To lose the league on goal difference, in injury time is probably the worst way to do so, especially when the trophy ended up in the home of your local rivals.
Even at the best of times, it seemed like Manchester United were missing something last season. They won plenty of games, played some excellent football and despite multiple disasters in European competition, were still one of the strongest sides in the continent.
